Dale Vranckx Breaks the Guinness World RecordTM
in Benefit of Your Life Counts!
On June 19, 2009, “Iron Man” Dale Vranckx did it again: he proved that perseverance and determination can make a difference in this world. By working to break the Guinness World RecordTM of ‘greatest distance travelled on an aqua bike in 24 hours’, Dale showed the meaning of never giving up.
Dale began his record breaking attempt at 5:15 AM on June 19, 2009 on Lake Erie at Booth’s Harbour Marina to Port Rowan Marina in St. Williams, Ontario. His laps totalled 8 miles each, and in approximately 16 hours and 8 minutes, Dale set a new world record for the ‘greatest distance travelled on an aquabike in 24 hours’. Dale set a new world record at 786 miles (1, 265 kilometres)! He completed an astounding 98 laps, finishing around 9:25 PM on June 19, 2009. Prior to Dale’s attempt the standing world record was completed in Croatia at 642 miles in 2006.
Dale’s claim to the new world record is being authenticated by the Guinness World Record Team.
To break the record, Dale rode the new Sea-Doo® RXT™ iS 255 personal watercraft, at the average speed of 91.2 km/hour (56.7 m/ph). Dale rode in some challenging conditions, including fog, rain, and wind up to 31 km/hour (19 m/ph) but persevered and kept going through the 16 hour run.
By the end of the day, he truly demonstrated why he partnered with Your Life Counts! to complete this endeavour: Dale wants teens to know that no matter what you’re going through, whatever the ‘weather’, never give up. Waves, fog and rain didn’t stop him from completing this world record and similarly, you can get through any circumstance you are facing right now.
Dale completed this challenge in benefit of Your Life Counts!, because he wants every person to know that they can keep going. The event raised awareness about YLC! and provided opportunities for individuals to contribute and donate to the organization.
